(ECNS) -- Chinese scientists have planted thousands of thriving, climate-resilient coral to combat climate change and preserve natural habitats in the ocean.

Coral reefs, the ocean's rainforests, are one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world.
However, constant labefaction and coral death due to global warming and rising sea temperatures are posing a threat to marine habitats.

To protect coral reefs, Chinese scientists have studied varieties capable of coping with higher temperature.

They have since commenced coral restoration work in Indonesia, Thailand and other regions.

"We're trying to find a super coral which can resist higher temperature through general biology to restore coral reefs under the context of global warming," said Dr. Luo Jie, assistant researcher of Kunming Institute of Zoology, CAS.

Luo Jie hopes to unveil the genetic code of coral's growth in the future and find more super corals to further restore coral reefs.
